Mint Stamps
In stamp collecting mint stamps are postage stamps that have never been used (not seen
postal duty) and therefore have never been cancelled.
Some stamp collectors may refer to a stamp as being “mint” simply if it has never been hinged
or where the gum on the stamp has not been disturbed.
Generally, the true meaning of a mint stamp are worth more than used stamps.
However, some collectors prefer the stamps to be used and actually forge a cancellation.
Mint stamps may be issued in honour of a person/place/event similar to the Commemorative Stamp.
One particular mint stamp issue of note was the stamp dedicated to Mother Teresa of Calcutta
and Diana, Princess of Wales. This collaboration was due to the similar wishes of both ladies to help those
suffering yet were so different in age and background.
A single stamp was issued on 31st August 2007 to mark their first meeting which was in
February 1992 at Mother Teresa’s convent in Rome.
Mint stamps can come in all shapes in sizes such as disney varieties, commonwealth stamps and
even Harry Potter!
Mint stamps can be very valuable as with many other types so it is crucial to keep them safe
from harm in a stamp album.
